Sailing and Sail Boats...

"Joining" by Nancy Rae Kienzler

I watched two boats sail their separate courses and thought how sad that these two beautiful things — so similar and following parallel paths — should nonetheless be disjoined by all that sea between them.

Like clouds overhead, blown across the same space by the same wind, but separated by a slice of sky.

But then sometimes the wind will catch one cloud a little more than the other, and blow the two together, and sometimes, when you watch the sailboats in the distance, you’ll see their paths cross, their bows kiss, their sails intermingle.

And you realize that neither sea, nor sky, nor any space between can keep two — who are meant to be one — from joining.

It’s not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend And if the wind is just right you can find the joy of innocence again. Oh when I’m sailing All caught up in the reverie, every wind is a symphony....

The canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.

A Boater’s Blessing … from Days of Yore

May there always be water under your boat,

May she always be seaworthy and ever afloat,

May your bilge pump be certain to work all night and all day,

May your compass and charts always show the safe way,

May you find gentle harbor as everyday ends,

May you lower your anchor amidst peace and good friends.

A Boater’s Blessing …Nowadays

May your outdrive be saved after hitting that rock,

May your bow be rebuilt after ramming your dock,

May you find your new watch that fell overboard,

May your neighbor quit stealing your slip’s power cord,

May Lysol mask the musty smell under your berth,

May you someday owe less than the damn boat is worth.
